Augmenting Elders: AR Workshops with the Elderly

Augmenting Elders is an ongoing AwhiWorld collaboration with seniors and staff at Elmwood, a retirement village in Manurewa, South Auckland. It involves a number of events and projects which bring traditional craft together with emerging technology. Project 1:  I used the mixed reality ‘Love Creatures’ app and ‘Wandering Creatures’ apps to help the elders learn about this technology. Awhi Creatures Papakura – Augmented Reality Installations

Location: Papakura Township and Gallery Date: September to November 2015 An AwhiWorld  AR experience and gallery installation supporting interdimensional creatures to nest in the alleyways, service lanes and interesting spaces of Papakura as well as an interactive AR installation in the gallery itself. Awhi Flora – Mixed Reality Workshops and Installations

Awhi_Flora was an AwhiWorld mixed reality mobile app available from the Google Play Store. Awhi Flora is based on New Zealand native flora and includes 3D animated flowers and physical seed markers. Awhi_Flora is a tool to support community engagement, to open minds and weave together different realities. It was tested and developed as part of the Augmenting_Elders programme I co-facilitated and then immediately put to use in the community

Wandering Creatures – AR Installation

Location: Auckland Zoo. Date: 13 – 20 February  2013   Wandering Creatures was an augmented reality installation at Auckland Zoo in which magical flying birds nested around the site. Aided by otherworldly guides or bespoke maps, Zoo guests could discover the creatures in their bird houses.
